The Reversed Three of Swords calls us to more closely examine how we speak to ourselves. Wisely, we should ask ourselves if we would speak to another person in such ways and, if the answer is no, why we speak thusly to ourselves. This card encourages us to speak more positively to ourselves to gain and maintain our confidence. This card may also suggest hypersensitivity to others’ words and therefore encourages us to self-reflect as to why the words hurt us so much and let go of them.

The Reversed Three of Swords may also suggest we have undergone a rough period which affected us deeply. This card’s reversal indicates that we are beginning to recover, accept the pain, and move freely onward. Conversely, this card can indicate that we are holding on to the happenings and emotions of some event which deeply affected us and lays bare the idea that we must free ourselves from the hurt and desolation of the past. Focus on embracing the new and the future; let go of the old and the past. Accept the circumstances as they are; we must allow ourselves to experience the emotion(s) we feel but recognize and accept that it is time to let them go.

As far as my experience with this card today, I can see where its wisdom applies to my life. The previous night I unwillingly experienced a very intrusive and highly inappropriate interaction with a stranger that left me feeling disgusting and devalued as a person. While what happened was not my fault, I did allow it to get underneath my skin and cause me great pain. The Three of Swords reminds me to let go of the hurt and move on with my life, forging ahead to greener pastures.
